Updates to the National Report on Schooling data portal - February 2022

23 February 2022
Today, ACARA has released 2021 student attendance data on the interactive National Report on Schooling data portal. These figures have also been incorporated in the Key Performance Measures on Schooling in Australia page.

The data shows that despite a slight long term downwards trend in school attendance, the measures taken by all jurisdictions to facilitate at-home learning during lockdowns have supported a national attendance rate for 2021 that does not appear to have been overly impacted by COVID lockdowns.

The data shows that overall, the national attendance rate of 90.9% in 2021 is slightly down on the result for 2019 of 91.4%. In the context of a slight long term downwards trend in school attendance (a drop of 0.3 points per year since 2014), the measures taken by all jurisdictions to facilitate at-home learning during lockdowns has resulted in a national attendance rate for 2021 in line with expectation.

Through the data portal, ACARA provides online access to national data on Australian schooling, including general statistics on enrolments and funding, and data on agreed key performance measures for schooling.

In most cases, the portal allows readers to view and download data at the national level, and also by state and territory, by school sector, by calendar year and by other breakdowns such as gender and Indigenous status.

The data portal is updated twice a year with the most recent information on schooling; the next refresh is scheduled for April 2022. See the National Report on Schooling data portal on the ACARA website
