ACARA Update, 29 April 2016
NAPLAN 2016 will be held on 10–12 May
The annual National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests will be held from 10 to 12 May 2016.
NAPLAN is a vital tool for parents, educators and the public to see if Australia’s children are meeting essential literacy and numeracy standards. It is a point-in-time snapshot assessment of students’ achievements in these important areas.
NAPLAN allows us to know, at important developmental stages, areas of students' strengths and development needs. Where intervention is needed, this can be sought out as early as possible.
The more quality information we get on our students’ literacy and numeracy abilities across the years, the better quality our response can be.

Aligning NAPLAN with the Australian Curriculum
This year, NAPLAN has been aligned with the Australian Curriculum: English and the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics, which are now being implemented in each state and territory.
This alignment reinforces our continued message that the best preparation for NAPLAN is for students simply to continue learning in the classroom every day, and for teachers to continue teaching the curriculum.
