Health and Physical Education (HPE), Foundation – Year 10 (Version 8.4)

The Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education offers experiential learning, with a curriculum that is relevant, engaging and contemporary to enable students to develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage satisfying, respectful relationships.
 
The AC: Health and Physical Education offers opportunities for students to access, evaluate and synthesise information about an increasingly complex, sedentary and rapidly changing world to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others’ health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity.
 
The F–10 AC: Health and Physical Education comprises of two interrelated strands:
 
  • personal, social and community health
  • movement and physical activity. 
Learning in Health and Physical Education supports students to make decisions about their health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity participation.

The development of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education

2012

The draft Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education (PDF 1.7 mb) was created between March and June 2012. The Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education (PDF 1.2 mb) was published in August 2012, setting the broad direction for the writing of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education learning area. This paper summarises the analysis of extensive consultation feedback through public consultation and input from an expert advisory group on the Draft Shape of the Australian Curriculum document.

2013

The draft of the Foundation – Year 10 Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education was published in 10 December 2012 – 12 April 2013 for national consultation. Feedback from consultation included teachers, individuals, schools, curriculum and school authorities, researchers and academics in this field.

2014

The F–10 Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education was included in version 6.0 of the Australian Curriculum.

2016

Work sample portfolios to demonstrate student achievement in the F–10 Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education learning area were published on the Australian Curriculum website.

2017

The curriculum connections resources that draw connections across with the Heath and Physical Education learning area and other Learning areas, were published on the Australian Curriculum website.
