Implementing of the senior secondary Australian Curriculum
State and territory curriculum, assessment and certification authorities are responsible for how senior secondary courses are organised, and they will determine how the Australian Curriculum content and achievement standards are to be integrated into their courses. The state and territory authorities will also determine the assessment and certification specifications for those courses and any additional information, guidelines and rules to satisfy local requirements including advice on entry and exit points and credit for completed study. The writing of the senior secondary Australian Curriculum commenced in 2009 with expert writers and advisory group members. An initial draft of the senior secondary Mathematics subjects was published for national consultation in 2010. Consultation meetings were held throughout June and July 2010 and many groups made submissions. Following consultation and in response to that feedback, writing recommenced in May 2011 and a national forum was held in August 2011. The recommendations of all the stakeholders were incorporated into the documents and further consultation with curriculum authorities and professional associations were undertaken prior to the release of the draft senior secondary Australian Curriculum: Mathematics for national public consultation between May and July 2012. The consultation feedback (see Consultation Report) along with national and international feedback contributed to further revisions and consultation with state and territory education authorities in August and September 2012. Final revised and quality assured documents were approved by the Standing Council of Ministers in December 2012. The final senior secondary curriculum is published on the Australian Curriculum website www.australiancurriculum.edu.au.
